History
of Bill Davis Trucking
In
30 years in the trucking business, Bill Davis has built an enviable track
record with basic elements he learned while
a member of the sales staff at Arkansas Peterbilt in Little Rock in the
mid-1970's. Above all, Davis believes the essence of return
business--as in any industry-- is based in reliable response and product
consistency.
Along
with his wife Gail, Davis has nurtured the growth of Bill Davis Trucking,
Inc. from its start as a two-truck operation in 1975 to its
present coast-to-coast scope with a fleet of 33 tractors and 75-plus
full-time employees supporting a limited base of clients, some of whom have
been BDTI clients since the company's inception.
"With
my father in the retail end of the trucking business, I literally grew up in the industry and it was
absolutely all I ever wanted to do. I was influenced by the success
and perfection in operations of two Arkansas truckers: C.C. "Shorty"
Jones of North Little Rock, and Julian Martin of Batesville. I
received good advice, worked
extremely hard to do things the right way and it has paid off for
us."
Davis
grew up in Little Rock and as a boy his father took him to work on the
weekends to jobsites for McConnell Heavy Hauling where the elder Davis
supervised large rigging jobs. Then, as a successful young salesman
in his early twenties, he wanted to follow his dreams to own and operate a
fleet of refrigerated equipment. After an acquisition of two trucks,
family friend Julian Martin of Batesville invited Davis to lease his
trucks at JMI and learn the business of trucking.
Thus
was the beginning of Bill Davis Trucking, Inc. As the years passed,
equipment was slowly added, shops were built, offices enlarged and BDTI
thrived.
